Frederik Vesti, the 2023 Formula 2 runner-up, will make his Formula E test debut with Mahindra in the championship’s official rookie test in Berlin next month.
So far this year Vesti has been focusing on his role as reserve driver for the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team, but made a return to racing earlier this month with Cool Racing in the European Le Mans Series’ season-opening Barcelona Four Hours.
The 22-year-old Dane had a successful career in junior single-seaters, winning 13 races during his two years in Formula 4, becoming Formula Regional Europe champion in 2019, winning four races across two FIA Formula 3 Championship campaigns and then claiming seven victories and two poles from his two seasons in F2.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to learn, which is only going to help me grow as a driver,” Vesti said of his FE test.
“It’s what motivates me, I’m really looking forward to trying the Gen3 FE car, which I understand is quite a challenge. That’s probably what I like most about FE, it is challenging and the fact it’s a competitive world championship that attracts some of the best drivers – and teams – is a great platform for me. I’ve finished up my preparations together with the team, so now I’m counting down the days until Berlin.”
Driving Mahindra’s other car in the test will be Kush Maini, who is the team’s reserve driver. The 23-year-old Indian is currently in his second F2 season and sits fifth in the standings with a pole and two podiums from the first three rounds.
