Nissan has announced Caio Collet and Gabriele Mini will drive its cars in Formula E’s rookie test in Berlin next month.
Former Alpine junior Collet was signed by Nissan as its reserve driver this January, and he got his first taste of an FE car earlier this month when he drove for the team in the rookie-only practice session at the Misano E-Prix.
The 22-year-old Brazilian raced in FIA Formula 3 from 2021 to ’23, and this year stepped up to Indy Nxt with HMD Motorsports. He is joint fourth in the standings after the first two rounds, with a best finish of fourth and a fastest lap.
“It was my first time in the Nissan e-4ORCE 04 in Misano, so in Berlin I’m looking to use that experience to help me develop my driving,” said Collet. “It’s a very different car to what I’m used to, so it takes a while to understand what to do and how to get the best out of it. My target is to learn as much as I can and help the team continue to improve.
“To have more track time will also be useful for my simulator work, to make the sim more accurate. I’m looking forward to being with the team again and will do my best.”
Mini meanwhile is a total newcomer to FE, and he is currently in his second season in the FIA F3 Championship. He took two wins and two poles in his rookie campaign, and so far in 2024 has made the podium once to sit third in the standings.
“I’m very pleased to test the Nissan e-4ORCE 04 for the first time in the Berlin rookie test,” said the 19-year-old Alpine junior.
“It will be a great chance to discover the car and to challenge myself in a different type of single-seater. I’m looking forward to giving my best and learning more about this category of racing. I would like to thank both Alpine and Nissan for their trust and for this exciting opportunity.”
