Doriane Pin will miss the third round of the Formula Regional European Championship season at Zandvoort due to fracturing her ribs.
Last weekend she withdrew from round two at Spa-Francorchamps mid-event, missing qualifying and the race on Sunday “due to pain from an earlier flu-like condition”.
She will now be out of action for a month, as after the Zandvoort round on June 7-9 she will also miss the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 15/16 – where like in FREC she was set to race for the Iron Dames team – and not return to racing until F1 Academy’s round at Barcelona on June 21-23.
“I did not race on Sunday [at Spa]. After some medical checks, we found out that I had some fractured ribs,” the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 junior said in a video posted online.
“Of course you need time to heal, and we had to make a difficult decision with my team to not race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but also in Zandvoort [for] FREC next week. It’s very tough and sad.”
Pin added that “I have to do the best for myself and also for the Iron Dames”, which meant not racing.
The FREC season started with two 23rd place finishes for Pin at Hockenheim, then a 22nd place at Spa. In the all-female, Formula 4-spec F1 Academy series, where she races for Prema, she has claimed a victory, a second place, a third and two poles from the first four races in Jeddah and Miami and sits second in the standings.
