Stoffel Vandoorne will leave Aragon as the quickest man after the second planned day of pre-season testing in the Formula Renault 3.5 category was cancelled due to excessive amounts of ice on track.
The news comes as an unpleasant surprise, in particular, to Christopher Zanella, who was scheduled to replace Daniel Zampieri in running Zeta Corse’s second car on day two.
The two sessions that did take part yesterday both ended with Vandoorne on top, as the Belgian mastered the tricky conditions and posted quickest times in the final minutes of both runs.
The weather-caused cancellation is nothing new to the FR3.5 series this year, with a prior private test at Monza also not happening due to snow. The icy conditions at Aragon cast a shadow of doubt over the scheduled pre-season tests in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 category, which are supposed to take place on the track over tomorrow and Monday.
The next FR3.5 test will take place at Paul Ricard on 8-9 March.
