Costa Toparis will race for KIC Motorsport in Formula Regional European Championship this year, in a car receiving technical support from Evans GP.
The 2022 Australian champion for OK-Junior karts started his car racing career two years ago, representing his country in the Motorsport Games Formula 4 Cup. He qualified 10th, and finished 13th in the main race.
He then joined Carlin for the non-championship F4 United Arab Emirates Trophy races on the support bill of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and finished the two races in fourth and eighth. Toparis stayed with the team for 2023, stepping up to GB3 and coming 15th in the standings with three sixth places being his best results.
His partnership with Evans GP began when he signed with the team for a double FRegional programme. However the Asian championship’s 2023 season was cancelled, so Toparis instead made his category debut in the Middle East championship at the start of this year. He took one podium en route to 15th in the standings.
“I’m excited to be competing in FREC this year with KIC Motorsport and Evans GP,” said Toparis.
“I enjoyed a very positive experience with Evans GP for FRME this year, and I believe we can continue to build on our results and capitalise on our pace. FREC has a highly competitive line-up, and I am looking forward to taking on this challenge. I feel privileged to be part of a close and energised team of people for 2024.”
Evans GP says its personnel will provide technical assistance on Toparis’s car, and that further details will follow about how it is co-operating with KIC Motorsport this year.
FREC pre-season testing begins at Barcelona today, and KIC is running Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi and Enzo Scionti alongside Toparis. The trio is expected to form the team’s line-up for the season.
