Christian Lundgaard will partner Marcus Armstrong at ART Grand Prix in this week’s post-season Formula 2 test in Abu Dhabi, ahead of an expected 2020 race campaign.
The 18-year-old Dane finished sixth in FIA Formula 3 Championship this year with ART, taking one win at the Hungaroring.
He also finished fourth in the Macau Grand Prix and made his F2 debut with Trident in last weekend’s Abu Dhabi season finale – finishing 14th and 12th in the two races as a replacement for Ralph Boschung.
“Great experience racing in F2 this weekend,” said Lundgaard.
“It?s been a valuable learning process and I just hope to be back for more [racing].
“The 2019 season isn?t quite over yet. I have three [test] days coming up with ART Grand Prix.”
Running after Formula 1’s post-season test at the circuit, F2 action will take place over six sessions on December 5-7.
Ferrari junior Armstrong, who was runner-up in FIA F3 this year with Prema and won three races, has already signed a deal with ART to secure his F2 graduation in 2020.
Lundgaard, who has been part of Renault’s young driver scheme since starting his car racing career with the North European Zone and Spanish Formula 4 titles in 2017, is widely expected to become his team-mate.
Earlier this year, Lundgaard got his first taste of ‘contemporary’ F1 machinery at the Hungaroring. He drove Renault’s 2017 car at the circuit, having previously completed F1 street demos for the manufacturer in far older cars.
