Former Formula One driver Christian Klien will enter the Auto GP series for the fifth round of the season at Mugello, taking the seat vacated by Luciano Bacheta.
The 30-year-old Austrian driver had a successful pre-F1 career as he won Formula Renault 2000 Germany in 2002, and the Masters of F3 event with Mucke in 2003. Klien spent three seasons in Formula One between 2004 and 2006 with the best finish of fifth place at Shanghai, later becoming Honda test driver in 2007, and BMW test driver fort he two subsequent years.
Klien received another chance to race in Formula One in 2010, as he replaced Sakon Yamamoto in three rounds for the now-defunct HRT.?Since then, Klien hasn’t been able to find a regular drive in any series,? as he made one-offs in championships such as the Superstars Series or V8 Supercars.
Tamas Pal Kiss will be Klien’s teammate for the round?as he remains with Zele Racing after finishing third on his first appearance with the team at Silverstone.
