Charlie Wurz will step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for his third full year in single-seater racing, completing the Jenzer Motorsport line-up.
The son of former Formula 1 driver and two-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Alex made his F3 debut with Jenzer in the Macau Grand Prix last November, when he ran as high as sixth in the main race before retiring with damage.
Wurz has raced a wide range of machinery since debuting in Italian Formula 4 with Prema in the middle of 2021. He won the United Arab Emirates F4 title with the same team at the beginning of 2022, before finishing fourth in a full season in the Italian series.
He then won the Formula Regional Oceania title in New Zealand at the start of 2023, but struggled upon switching to the European championship with ART Grand Prix, scoring just one point before leaving the series mid-season. He switched focus to Euroformula Open with the Motopark-run CryptoTower team and took a race win on his way to sixth in the points.
“I am thrilled to be racing with Jenzer Motorsport for the 2024 FIA F3 season,” Wurz said. “I feel confident and comfortable having a team with such high motivation behind me. I can’t wait to get started in Bahrain in a few weeks time.”
All three of Jenzer’s 2024 drivers will be entering their first full seasons at this level, with Wurz joining Max Esterson and Matias Zagazeta in the team.
“Part of Charlie’s blood seems to be pure fuel and passion!” said team boss Andreas Jenzer.
“The FIA F3 official test days we did together at the end of 2023 as well as how he was able to shine in the demanding FIA F3 Macau World Cup event was very positive. Let’s push together to achieve great results and bring the Jenzer Motorsport car – featuring the new livery – once more to the front.”
