Campos Racing’s Mari Boya was fastest in FIA Formula 3 Championship practice at the Hungaroring.

There was very little track action in the first half of the 45-minute session, with drivers completing an outlap or two between lengthy stays in the pits.

Only six drivers had set flying laps at the halfway point, with Prema’s Gabriele Mini leading the way by a slim margin over MP Motorsport’s Alex Dunne.

There were 11 drivers who had laptimes next to their name after 25 minutes, although still only five who had lapped at a representative pace.

That became six after 27 minutes, with Hitech GP’s Cian Shields joining the Prema and MP drivers.

Soon the track was getting busier, and Van Amersfoort Racing’s Noel Leon went fastest with a 1m34.641s, with ART Grand Prix’s Christian Mansell and VAR team-mate Sophia Floersch jumping up to fourth and fifth. Once everyone was back on track, there were still only 12 drivers who had lapped at pace.

A minute later Rodin Motorsport’s Callum Voisin set a 1m35.009s to take over fourth place, with Campos’s Sebastian Montoya slotting into fifth ahead of Nikita Bedrin, Sami Meguetounif and Mansell.

Montoya then improved to second, setting a 1m34.758s, and with 10 minutes to go his team-mate Boya posted a 1m34.236s to top the times as Trident’s Santiago Ramos set a 1m34.911s in fourth. He was soon shuffled down to sixth, as Hitech’s Martinius Stenshorne got within 0.176 seconds of Boya’s pace and his team-mate Luke Browning slotted into fourth.

Although many drivers stayed out, improvements were scarce thereon although Browning set a 1m34.524s late on to move ahead of Leon into third.
