Campos Racing has confirmed Nerea Marti will remain with the team for a second F1 Academy season.
Marti had long been expected to fill the final vacant seat on the 2024 grid, having raced for Campos in the championship’s inaugural season and then being spotted driving in off-season testing which was held in secrecy behind closed doors.
The 22-year-old Spaniard will be going into her fifth season of single-seater racing. She came 16th in Spanish Formula 4 as a rookie in 2019, making the podium once, then she stepped up to Formula Regional to race in the all-female W Series in 2021 and ’22. She came fourth in her first season with one podium and seventh in her sophomore campaign despite making the podium twice.
Last year she stepped back down to F4 with Campos, doing one Formula Winter Series round then coming fourth in F1 Academy, another all-female series, with one win and five other podiums.
“I’m over the moon. Being able to continue with Campos Racing for another year in F1 Academy is incredible,” said Marti.
“It’s very special to do it with Campos, being a Spanish team and one that we worked with last year, so we all know each other. The team is strong, and with everything we learned last season, this year we’ll be able to be at the top.”
Campos’s team principal Adrian Campos Jr added: “It’s great to have Nerea driving one of our cars again for 2024. She proved to be a clear contender for wins and podiums last year, and I feel confident that we will be able to further rise the bar this season. With more experience in the series, I have no doubts our goals are to be more ambitious yet in 2024.”
