HMD Motorsports has completed its huge 10-car Indy Nxt line-up for 2024 by signing former Alpine junior Caio Collet.
The 21-year-old Brazilian is entering his seventh year in single-seater racing, and moves up to IndyCar’s primary feeder series after three seasons in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Collet won the French Formula 4 title and won in F4 United Arab Emirates as a car racing rookie in 2018, and was Formula Renault Eurocup runner-up in his second season there. He also won a race in the Toyota Racing Series in 2020.
Over his three FIA F3 campaigns he claimed three wins and eight other podium finishes. His best championship position was eighth place in the 2022 standings.
“IndyCar is a goal of mine for the future, but right now I am 100% focused on Indy Nxt with HMD Motorsports,” said Collet, who is also Nissan’s reserve driver in Formula E this year.
“I have a lot to learn, and I am thankful for the opportunity. I will put my best foot forward at achieving race wins, podium results and the championship for both HMD Motorsports and myself.”
HMD’s team president Mike Maurini said “it has been a long process to officially confirm Caio” as one of its Indy Nxt drivers, after he tested multiple times with the team.
He also confirmed that Collet will prioritise his Indy Nxt commitments rather than his FE work when the two series have clashing dates. That means Collet will not be available to Nissan for the Monaco E-Prix and Berlin E-Prix.
