British Formula 4 runner-up William Macintyre will step up to GB3 this year with Hitech GP.

The former Sauber junior was runner-up in the entry-level sportscar series Ginetta Junior in 2022, then moved into single-seater racing at the end of the year by joining Elite Motorsport for the GB4 season finale and taking two podiums.

After that he signed with Hitech to race in the F4 United Arab Emirates Trophy, where he took a fourth place, and then for a 2023 a double programme in F4 UAE and British F4. In the former he came 14th in the standings, and in the latter he took two wins, 12 other podiums and three poles.

“GB3 is the logical next step for my second season in single-seaters,” said Macintyre. “I went into my maiden British F4 season hoping for a top-five finish as part of a two-year plan. To have been one of only two drivers able to win the title in the last race was therefore a huge achievement and Hitech played a huge part in my development in 2023.

“I really enjoy working with the team and can’t wait to begin with them on this step-up earlier than planned. There are new tracks and a new car to learn which is great, and despite the competition level, I hope that I can be challenging for podiums and wins again in 2024.”

Back in 2019, Macintyre was signed to Sauber’s karting team for a brief programme after he won the Italian title in the 60 Mini category and was second in the WSK Euro Series. He then stepped up to junior karting and came third in the 2020 Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy, and was third in the IAME Winter Cup a year later.
