British F4 graduate Oliver Stewart makes GB3 step with Elite Motorsport

by Ida Wood

Oliver Stewart will race in GB3 with Elite Motorsport for his second year in car racing, having debuted in British Formula 4 in 2022.

The 16-year-old Scot won a reversed-grid race and came 10th in the standings in that series, which he contested with Hitech GP. He started testing GB3 machinery with Elite last November, and has driven at several circuits in his preparations for 2023. Last week he was third fastest in an official series test at Oulton Park.

Before racing in cars, Stewart was a high achiever in karting. In 2021 he was IAME Warriors Final runner-up, fourth in the British championship for X30 Junior karts, won the Little Green Man Series and made the final of the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy shootout.

“My aim is obviously to do the best job I can and get as many poles, wins and podiums as possible,” said Stewart.

“It’s the top single-seater class in the UK attracting a worldwide grid of top-level drivers and provides a great platform and opportunity for me to progress my career to the next level.

“Having tested with Elite last November, I was overwhelmed by their professionalism and determination to get the best out of the car and myself. I knew from the get-go that I was surrounded by a team of passionate professionals with a mass of experience in motorsport. I was immediately made to feel welcome by everyone.

“I have found the grip level a massive difference moving up a category to GB3. It requires you to be extremely smooth on steering in order to get the best out of it. Not only that but the car feels quicker and is overall an enjoyable car to drive.”

Stewart completes Elite’s line-up alongide McKenzy Cresswell and Ayato Iawaki.
