Brazilian F4 runner-up Lucas Staico to race in GB3 with Douglas

by Steve Whitfield

Douglas Motorsport has added Brazilian Formula 4 runner-up Lucas Staico to its 2023 GB3 line-up.

Staico won multiple titles in Brazil during a highly-successful karting career before making his single-seater debut in Formula Delta in 2021, taking a pole position and a podium finish across the four races he contested.

The 18-year-old continued to compete in his homeland last year, scoring three wins and five poles for TMG Racing in Brazilian F4’s inaugural season, including victory in the finale at Interlagos.

Staico got his first taste of GB3 machinery last October when he drove for Chris Dittmann Racing in pre-event testing prior to the final round at Donington Park.

“I’m delighted to be part of the Douglas Motorsport team and I’m looking forward to giving my best on and off track,” said Staico. “It’s a high-level championship and I think it’s the right way to start my journey in Europe.”

He will be paired with BRSCC National FF1600 winner Shawn Rashid, who was announced by the team on Wednesday, with a third driver expected to be added to the line-up.

“We’re thrilled to get the opportunity to race with Lucas this season,” said Douglas team principal Wayne Douglas.

“He really made a name for himself in Brazilian F4 last year and has a huge amount of potential, so we’re confident he’ll be one to watch once he gets up to speed in GB3.”
