Mari Boya set the best time so far of the Bahrain Formula 3 in-season test at the end of day two.

Campos Racing’s Boya was within 0.033 seconds of the pace in the morning session, having taken over the lead of the session from Santiago Ramos just over half an hour in.

Louis Sharp bettered his time around 20 minutes later, and the Rodin Motorsport driver’s lap of 1m48.703s would stand as the quickest of the morning. Tuukka Taponen wound up second quickest for the third session out of three so far this week, just 0.024s down on Sharp, with Boya finishing up third.

It was only in the final 15 minutes of the afternoon session that times would again drop into the 1m48s.

Tim Tramnitz set a series of fastest times in the first half of the session ahead of his MP Motorsport team-mates Alessandro Giusti and Bruno del Pino, but his best lap was soon beaten by that of Van Amersfoort Racing’s Ramos.

Hitech then hit the front inside the day’s final hour of running, with Martinius Stenshorne briefly taking top spot before Gerard Xie took over.

Less than 12 minutes were on the clock when James Wharton went quickest for ART with a 1m48.962s. Sharp instantly went four hundredths of a second faster and looked set to repeat Nikola Tsolov’s clean sweep from Wednesday before Boya recorded a 1m48.640s, topping the session by 0.282s.

Behind those three later pace-setters, Freddie Slater went fourth fastest to end his second day testing with AIX Racing, putting him ninth overall.
