Lucas Blakeley says he “doesn’t know what the future holds” despite ending his two rounds in GB4 with KMR Sport by taking a dominant victory at Silverstone.
After finishing a close second behind Fortec Motorsports’ Linus Granfors in race one there, the 23-year-old scored a record-breaking triumph in race two, his winning margin of 15.4 seconds the biggest ever in GB4.
“It was a dream race,” Blakeley told Formula Scout. “We had an amazing start, they started to fight behind and I just got my head down and hit my marks. I saw the gap was going up and up, and I was just managing things towards the end. To be told it is the biggest GB4 winning margin ever was quite something.
“We just got stronger through the weekend. We came here a bit on the backfoot given everybody else has already raced here once already this year, so I knew I would have to be getting on it very quickly. I knew that I had to work hard with the team and just drive on my instincts, and that’s when I think I’m driving at my best.
“Race one just built a lot of confidence within us. Everyone up and down the paddock was thinking whether Linus was out of reach or not, but I came into it with an open mind, I never once went in with a defeated attitude. I think we were probably quicker but ultimately very hard to overtake.”
The Esports star contested two GB4 rounds with KMR last season, and immediately impressed on his return at Snetterton by winning race one. A post-race penalty denied him victory in the final contest.
“Snetterton was such a whirlwind because it happened immediately in race one, and then we won again albeit we had it taken away due to a formation lap infringement which was quite annoying because it was something that didn’t affect the race. Two wins on the road and a podium was a great way to start things.”
Having self-funded his opportunities to date using Esports prize money, Blakeley says he needs the help of sponsors to continue his racing journey any further.
“It’s been great to get some track time and start to feel like I’m really driving these cars and getting the results, and that’s something that I’m very grateful for. I’ve put a lot into this but there’s only so far I can take it on my own so I’m just going to enjoy this moment because I don’t really know what the future holds.
“To win at Silverstone was one of my last bucket list things that I wanted to achieve because this track means a lot to me, it makes it all the more special. That’s why I did the mic drop when I got out, if that’s where it ends I can look back on what I’ve achieved and say it’s not through lack of trying.”
He has since tested GB4’s 2025 car with Douglas Motorsport.
