Michael Belov will return to the Formula Regional European Championship grid once more at the Hungaroring this weekend to replace the injured Roman Bilinski at Trident.
Bilinski is set to miss several rounds after sustaining two broken vertebrae in a road accident a few days before the most recent event at Zandvoort.
Having not had the chance to replace Bilinski for the races in the Netherlands, Trident will be back up to three cars in Hungary after calling up Belov who has a long history at FRegional level dating back to 2020, when he contested six events in Formula Renault Eurocup around a three-round stint in FIA Formula 3 with Charouz.
In 2021 he scored a pair of second places on a one-off mid-season appearance with JD Motorsport at Paul Ricard before linking up with G4 Racing for the rest of the campaign, going on to take wins at Spa and Valencia and finish eighth in the championship. In 2022 he joined MP Motorsport and finished seventh in the points, even though complications travelling to and from his native Russia meant his season ended at the mid-way point.
Last year he returned to G4 Racing for a campaign that would again not last the full season, ending up 20th in the standings after missing the last two rounds.
Trident said Belov’s “presence will certainly produce an important contribution to the whole team”. Its other drivers Nicola Lacorte and Ruiqi Liu have scored one point between them so far this season, achieved by Alpine junior Lacorte in the opening round at Hockenheim.
