Racing Steps Foundation-backed racer Ben Barnicoat will race in the first round of the 2014 Protyre Formula Renault season.

Barnicoat, who is confirmed for the Formula Renault NEC championship, will be racing with Fortec in the Protyre one-off alongside their previously confirmed full-timer Alex Gill.

2014 will be Barnicoat’s first full season in car racing as the Brit graduates karting with a very impressive CV that included the CIK-FIA European KF2 championship title, first place in the Super 1 National series in the KF2 class and two victories in the British Kartmasters Grand Prix KF3.

Having made his car racing debut with Fortec at the end of the 2013 season, he won the Protyre Formula Renault Autumn Cup, taking two wins in three races.

“It?s great to have Ben in the car for the first round at Rockingham after his performances in the Autumn Cup”, said Fortec manager Dominic Stott. “He?ll be the driver everyone wants to beat and we will be looking to carry on from where we finished 2013. With Ben and Alex in the team we have, arguably, two of the best up and coming British drivers out there and it will definitely be exciting to see them racing each other.”
