Championship leader Antonio Fuoco made it two wins in a row and extended his lead even more over the championship runner-up spot, which now belongs to Pierre Gasly after a close second place. Completing the podium was William Vermont.
Fuoco started from pole and controlled the race in difficult conditions for the majority of the race. The end of the race came abruptly as with three minutes to go, rain started to fall on the track, Vermont managed to overtake Gasly for second place, and the race leader Fuoco spun out on the wet track entering the Rivazza corner with Vermont narrowly avoiding him. Shortly thereafter Nyck de Vries spun out in the same corner into the gravel, bringing out the red flag. The stewards decided to call the race and the win was given to Fuoco as the finish order was taken from the end of the previous lap.
“It started raining at the end, but it was still dry in most places. When I’ve approached the Rivazza, the track was wet. Furthermore in the gravel there was already another car. I’ve spun but all went well” said Fuoco.
With that, Fuoco was declared the winner with Gasly in second and Vermont in third, Bruno Bonifacio fourth and de Vries fifth. Luca Ghiotto was sixth with the newcomer and part time-contestant Jakub Dalewski finishing in a solid seventh. Matthieu Vaxiviere was eigth, Egor Orudzhev took ninth and the final point went to Simon Tirman.
