KMR Sport’s Andrew Rackstraw took a comfortable win in the Walter Hayes Trophy progression race as Sunday’s action at Silverstone got underway.
In sunny but wet conditions, Rackstraw immediately climbed from sixth on the grid to second into Copse before sweeping past David Porter to the lead on the run up to Becketts.
Porter then spun at Becketts and was collected by Alan Slater, with Peter Hannam, Andrew Pryke and Jack Butterworth all running off track in avoidance.
Rackstraw quickly pulled clear, while Nigel Grant Motorsport driver Tom Bradshaw moved up from 16th to second and Enigma Motorsport’s James Clarke gained 10 places to third.
At the end of the second lap Clarke used a wide line around Luffield to make a better exit and draw alongside Bradshaw, moving into second through Woodcote despite getting sideways on the inside kerb.
Rackshaw continued to extend his lead gap, eventually winning the 10-lap contest by 9.968 seconds from Clarke, with Bradshaw a further 7s behind in third.
B-M Racing’s Drew Cameron climbed 10 places early on to fourth, where he remained until the finish ahead of Echo Motorsport’s Tom Radburn. Dominic Mooney started from pole and slipped to fourth by turn one, and lost a further two places during the race to finish sixth in his Jamun T2.
Pryke came home seventh for Team Fox Racing ahead of Butterworth and Porter, with George Ditchfield completing the top-10 in his Reynard 89FF. Only one driver in the 17-car field failed to progress to the WHT’s last chance race.
