Super Formula Lights, formerly known as Japanese Formula 3, has revealed a new 2020 calendar which keeps it on the support bill of all Super Formula rounds.
The third tier series, which along with Euroformula is introducing the new halo-shod Dallara 320 this year, had been shortened to just two rounds at Twin Ring Motegi and Okayama due to postponements caused by the global coronavirus pandemic.
A new SF calendar that was circulated this week gave hope that the season would run to its originally intended length of six rounds. The championship has now confirmed that is the case, with rearranged races supporting SF at Sportsland SUGO, Autopolis, Suzuka and Fuji Speedway.
All rounds will feature three races, bar Okayama where only two will take place, and it is yet to be communicated whether a pre-season test will be organised.
There are six drivers confirmed to race in the upcoming season, with former Sauber junior and Asian F3 champion Raoul Hyman likely to sign with B-MAX Racing by Motopark.
BRDC British F3 has also unveiled a new calendar, with the most significant change being a new standalone round on Donington Park’s National layout on October 24/25.
The failure to reschedule the Spa-Francorchamps round means that a fourth race will be added to the schedule at the mid-season Brands Hatch, Donington and Snetterton rounds.
The average of each driver’s best two laps from the first three races of those weekends will decide the grid for the fourth race, and an extra set of tyres will be made available to drivers for all three of those rounds.
Chinese F4 is another to shake up its calendar, swapping Qinhuangdao for Zhuhai for its July 4/5 season opener, adding the new Zhuzhou circuit in on July 25/26, and moving Ningbo forward to August 22/23 with Qinhuangdao taking its original September 19/20 date.
The races at Shanghai, which are expected to support Formula 1’s rescheduled Chinese Grand Prix, look like they will take place on October 17/18 as planned rather than being postponed to November.
