Linus Lundqvist won for the second time on in the BRDC British Formula 3’s weekend at Spa-Francorchamps to further extend his lead at the top of the standings.
Double R driver Lundqvist was involved in a three-way battle for the lead at the start of the race with polesitter Tom Gamble and Carlin’s Billy Monger, with Monger taking the lead on the opening lap at Les Combes.
One lap?later however Lundqvist was able to pass Monger at the same spot on the track before keeping himself in the lead until the chequered flag for his sixth BRDC British F3 victory of 2018.
Fortec’s Gamble was able to get around Monger on lap four of nine and got within less than a second of the race leader before the chequered flag fell.
Monger was able to keep control of third for his second podium since his return to racing at the start of this year.
Gamble’s team-mate Manuel Maldonado finished 5.605 seconds behind the race leader in fourth, with a nine-second gap to Hillspeed’s Jusuf Owega in fifth.
Owega was able to make up three positions through the race after starting in eighth, with race two winner Jamie Caroline finishing in sixth where he also lined up on the grid.
Tristan Charpentier was able to hold off Double R Racing’s Krishnaraaj Mahadik and Carlin’s Sun Yue Yang to stay in seventh place, with 0.443s separating the trio after nine laps.
Just over half a second behind was Sasakorn Chaimongkol for Hillspeed, who rounded off the top 10.
Kush Maini was only able to finish 11th but keeps third in the standings, four points in front of Gamble, while second?in the championship Nicolai? Kjaergaard had to stop on lap five, putting him 120 points adrift of Lundqvist.
