JHR Developments will return to GB3 for next week’s season finale at Barcelona, marking the team’s first appearance of the year.

It has signed British debutants Thomas Ingram Hill and Lewis Wherrell for the event, both making steps up the single-seater ladder.

Having planned to join the grid in 2019, JHR joined GB3 (then known as BRDC British Formula 3) for three rounds in 2020 and picked up two podiums.

It was absent in 2021, then returned full-time in 2022 and claimed its first win. Five more came in 2023, resulting in the teams’ title, and JHR came close to another title in 2024 as John Bennett won three races en route to second in the standings. JHR then went victory-free last year as GB3 introduced a new car.

“We’re very pleased to be back on the GB3 grid and to be fielding two really exciting prospects for the season finale in Barcelona,” said team principal Steven Hunter.

Wherrell switched from karts to cars 11 months ago, contesting two rounds of the Saudi Arabian Formula 4 season. He came fifth in the standings by taking two wins and two poles.

After that he joined JHR’s British F4 line-up for 2026, and won three times in the first third of the 30-race campaign. Seven more podiums followed, but he slipped from first to third in the standings.

“I can’t wait to make my GB3 debut, especially with JHR,” said the 16-year-old. “We’ve had a brilliant season together in British F4, so having the opportunity to take this next step with a team I know so well makes it even more exciting.”

“Moving up to GB3 will be a new challenge and there will be plenty to learn, but I’m looking forward to getting to grips with the car in Barcelona. My focus will be on learning as much as possible, building throughout the weekend and making the most of the opportunity. I’m excited to see what we can achieve together.”

Ingram Hill began his car racing career in entry-level sportscar series Ginetta Junior, coming 11th in the standings two years ago.

In 2025 he switched to single-seaters for a double programme in GB4 and British F4. His two podiums in GB4 put him sixth in the points table, and two 11th places were the best results from the five British F4 events he contested. At the start of this year he came a points-free 25th in UAE4, and he was fourth with one victory in his sophomore GB4 season.

While GB4 uses a modified version of GB3’s old car, Ingram Hill says the series’ current chassis “is a big step up from GB4 – more power, more downforce and a really strong field – so I’m going in with my feet on the ground”.

“The main goal is mileage in preparation for next year. I want to get as many laps under my belt as I can, learn from every session and lean on the team’s experience to understand the car properly.”
