Wayne Poole Racing’s Josh Fisher has been disqualified from the Walter Hayes Trophy meeting after several verbal incidents.
At the end of the second heat on Saturday morning, Fisher came down the pitlane to take a photo of the nosecone of the winning car. He then made threatening statements towards its driver, Team Dolan’s Chris Middlehurst, before their confrontation was interrupted by Middlehurst being taken to the interview area for the live YouTube feed.
Later in the day, Fisher had an on-track incident with KMR Sport’s debuting Mikel Bezuidenhout in heat four.
Fisher had slipped from second to fourth behind Mikel Bezuidenhout, and they almost made contact after the latter locked up into Brooklands. They continued to scrap until another incident that occurred after Top Nippers snuck past both down the Wellington Straight.
Going into Brooklands they collided, then made secondary contact after sliding off the road, with Fisher’s car briefly becoming airborne. Both drivers were able to continue, with Bezuidenhout finishing fourth and Fisher coming home ninth in the provisional results.
Afterwards, Fisher sought Bezuidenhout and expressed his opinions of the driver and the incident in terms which the clerk of the course did not deem acceptable.
He found Fisher guilty of contravening Motorsport UK regulation regarding abusive language and behaviour after a report from a member of event staff that confirmed Fisher had said to Middlehurst “wait until I am behind you then you are fucked” and then “you are the fucking shitest driver in KMR you waved me through and then intentionally took me out” after his heat.
Six penalty points have also been placed on Fisher’s race licsense.
