Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad will step up to Formula 2 for 2025 and drive for Campos Racing.
It continues a rapid ascent of the junior single-seater ladder for the British driver, who only turned 17 in August and contested his first full season of car racing in Formula 4 last year.
Having been signed by Red Bull during a glittering karting career, he made his Italian F4 debut towards the end of 2022 with Van Amersfoort Racing after turning 15, and was leading the championship with Prema last season until a late loss of form left him to finish third in the points.
Nonetheless he moved up to FIA Formula 3 with Prema for 2024 and won his debut sprint race in Bahrain and the feature race in Barcelona before a stunning double win at home at Silverstone which put him just six points off the championship lead with three rounds to go. However, he would fail to score again and finished up fourth in the standings.
“Super excited to be joining Campos Racing in FIA F2 for 2025,” Lindblad said. “The team has had an amazing season so far and can’t wait to start working together.”
Campos has formed a close partnership with Red Bull this year and has enjoyed a strong season running two of its juniors, Isack Hadjar and Pepe Marti, in the new-for-2024 F2 car. Hadjar has won four feature races and currently leads the drivers’ points with three rounds remaining, and is almost certain to move on from the category next year.
“We are happy to have a driver like Arvid in our ranks for 2025, as he has immense talent, and we are sure that together we have very important goals ahead,” said team principal Adrian Campos Jr.
“We have the winter months to work ensuring he is as prepared as possible for his debut next season. We will bring all our experience to make his transition as smooth and successful as possible.”
Lindblad drove a Formula 1 car for the first time last week when he took part in a demonstration run in Houston in Red Bull’s RB8 car from the 2012 season. A change allowing 17-year-olds to qualify for a superlicence means Lindblad could appear in an F1 practice session for either of Red Bull’s teams in the near future.
