Sami Meguetounif will remain part of MP Motorsport’s Formula Regional European Championship line-up for 2023, having raced for the team last year.
The 18-year-old Frenchman came 16th in the 2022 standings, claiming one podium and two other points finishes. He also raced for the Hyderabad Blackbirds powered by MP team in FRegional Middle East at the start of this year, and with a win and two pole positions put himself 10th in the standings.
He completes MP’s FREC line-up for this year, with Dilano van’t Hoff continuing to be his team-mate and Victor Bernier joining from the FA Racing team that was run by MP.
“I’ve had no doubts re-signing with MP for a fresh assault on FREC,” said Meguetounif.
“Our strong pace in the FRME series confirmed my beliefs, and you just cannot help but notice that the confidence in the team is on a high after they took the Formula 2 drivers and teams titles. It’s got the FREC squad in a winning mood too, and I very much aim to deliver on that. FREC is a hugely competitive championship but I’m sure that we will be among the frontrunners.”
Before FRegional, Meguetounif raced in Formula 4 for three years. He won a race in the French championship in 2020, and was 11th in ADAC F4 in 2021.
“It’s great news that we are able to continue with Sami,” said MP’s team principal Sander Dorsman. “There is no doubt about Sami’s natural talent, and we fully intend to unlock every last bit of it as we move into the new FREC season ahead.”
Sainteloc Racing has also made a FREC signing today, adding Nicolas Baptiste to its line-up.
The 17-year-old Colombian, a points scorer in Italian F4 in 2021, drove for FA Racing in FREC last year and had a best finish of 15th. Sainteloc has taken over the assets of the FA Racing team.
