Jenzer Motorsport has announced Alex Garcia will be joining its FIA Formula 3 Championship line-up for this year, a month after the Mexican self-announced the move.
The 19-year-old is making a sideways move into the series, having spent 2022 racing in Euroformula with Motopark. He visited the podium once and finished seventh in the standings, last of the full-time drivers.
Before that he had picked up podiums across a season-and-a-half in NACAM Formula 4 and scored four times across two seasons in Spanish F4.
His F3 preparations have included private testing and joining Jenzer for the 2022 post-season test at Jerez.
“I’m very pleased to be racing in FIA F3 with Jenzer Motorsport this season,” said Garcia.
“I am really looking forward to work on my development as a driver to achieve good results throughout the season, I’m really looking forward to make the most out of what will surely be a challenging season, with a steep learning curve.”
Jenzer’s team’s founder Andreas Jenzer added: “Alejandro is a rookie in FIA F3 this season, and as we know well from experience, this can be hard at times. Alejandro’s step into this ultra-competitive environment will be a big challenge. We will work hard together and look forward to be on track in Bahrain.”
Alongside F3, it has also been announced that Garcia will be driving for Cool Racing in the LMP3 prototype sportscar class of the European Le Mans Series.
Jenzer meanwhile is anticipated to reveal who its other two F3 drivers are for 2023 in the coming days.
