The Williams Formula 1 team has added British karter Will Green to its driver academy.
The youngster is the son of Jamie Green, who runs his own karting team that competes in Britain and in international competitions. He is best known for what he achieved racing cars, being runner-up in Formula Renault 2.0 UK and British Formula 3 before winning the F3 Euro Series in 2004 and embarking on a lengthy DTM career that included 17 wins.
Experience between generations is shared regularly since Green drives for his father’s team in mini karting.
“I’m incredibly excited to be given this opportunity with Williams,” said the younger Green. “I’m looking forward to the chance to further excel in my racing career and rise through the ranks, with the goal to one day reach F1.”
Green was sixth in the British championship for Rotax karts eighth in the IAME Warriors Final for X30 karts last year, and on the latter machinery he has won the IAME Euro Series and British championship, and come 18th in the IAME Winter Cup in 2024.
A taste of OK-N Junior karts in the two-round WSK Final Cup last month resulted in ninth place in the standings.
“Investing in the next generation is at the heart of our approach at Williams and we’re thrilled to welcome Will to the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” Williams’ sporting director Sven Smeets commented.
“He has demonstrated impressive consistency at this early stage of his career and has shown strong progress in his racing. We’re looking forward to supporting Will’s growth as he continues to develop in 2025 and beyond.”
Williams now has four karters in its academy, with Dean Hoogendoorn, Sara Matsui and Lucas Palacio on its books. Sasha Bondarev recently graduated from karts to single-seaters, a year on from when he became an F1 junior.
