Watchmaker Invicita became title sponsor of Virtuosi Racing’s Formula 2 squad this year, and it has now bought a stake in the British team which will be renamed for 2024.
Virtuosi competes in the British Formula 4 championship in addition to F2, and previously raced with success in Auto GP.
It partnered up with Invicta this February in a multi-year deal that only applied to its F2 entry. However from 2024 onwards the Norfolk-based team, in all series it races in, will compete as Invicta Racing.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Invicta over the past 12 months as an official partner of our team, and our partnership to date has certainly helped elevate our team’s presence both inside and outside of F2,” said the team’s CEO Declan Lohan.
“This new partnership allows us to increase our competitiveness across all facets of our business, and so we are delighted we could make it happen.”
Invicta Racing has already announced its 2024 F2 line-up, with series sophomore, Mahindra reserve driver and new Alpine junior Kush Maini being partnered with reigning FIA Formula 3 champion Gabriel Bortoleto, who is a McLaren junior.
This year the team ran Jack Doohan to three wins and third in the standings, and last year Doohan came sixth in F2 while also picking up three wins. From 2019 to ’21, Virtuosi was second in the teams’ championship for three seasons in a row and Luca Ghiotto, Zhou Guanyu and Callum Ilott delivered a total of 12 race wins for the team between them.
Virtuosi previously operated the Russian Time squad from 2015 before it took over the entry itself.
