The Trident team is preparing to expand into Formula 4 with an entry into the Italian championship in 2026.
Next year will mark 20 years since Trident was formed to compete in GP2. After brief stints also racing in International Formula Master and Auto GP, in 2012 it entered the GP3 series.
It has remained there into the FIA Formula 3 era in which it has achieved its greatest successes, claiming the teams’ title in 2021 and the drivers’ titles in 2023 and 2024 with Gabriel Bortoleto and Leonardo Fornaroli respectively. It currently leads both the teams’ and drivers’ standings in 2025, the latter with Rafael Camara.
Trident added a Formula Regional European Championship programme in 2022 and recently achieved its first win in that series with Matteo de Palo.
It is currently in the process of expanding its headquarters in Ossonia near Milan and forming an F4 squad, with the plan to begin testing and evaluating drivers this September.
“Entering Formula 4 from the 2026 season was a strategic and natural choice for our team, which will allow us to complete our presence in all the most important junior formulas,” said founder Maurizio Salvadori.
“With this step, we will potentially be able to accompany a driver from the first kilometres in a single-seater to the gates of Formula 1, passing through Formula Regional, FIA Formula 3, and Formula 2, ladders where we are already active.
“The Italian Formula 4 Championship will allow us to test ourselves in a very competitive context and one that has become a true reference in the international F4 scene thanks to the joint work of WSK and ACI. The structure of the dedicated team is taking shape these days and we are eager to begin this new challenge”.
