Sophia Floersch has ended her rookie Indy Nxt campaign with HMD Motorsports after just a single race, the team has revealed.
The 24-year-old German qualified 17th and finished 12th on her debut at the start of this month on the streets of St. Petersburg, and was part of a colossal nine-car line-up at HMD.
Her derparture now leaves the team seeking a replacement before round two of the season at Barber Motorsports Park on May 2-4.
“As we move onwards in 2025, HMD Motorsports and Sophia Floersch have mutually agreed to part ways for the remainder of the Indy NXT season. HMD wishes Sophia the best of luck in her future endeavors,” said HMD in a team statement.
“The team is now actively considering driver options for the No. 24 car for the remaining 13 races and upcoming test days.”
Floersch has not made her own statement about the end of her Indy Nxt programme, and it is unclear what lies next for her.
Floersch was a member of the Alpine Academy through 2023 and 2024, and at the end of last year she announced she would step up from Formula 3 after four years in the category and a single top-10 finish to relocate her career to America by racing in Indy Nxt.
Despite Floersch’s departure, the championship still has a female presence on the grid since HMD also has Hailie Deegan in its line-up. The former NASCAR racer finished 14th in St. Petersburg on what was only her third race in single-seaters.
