Campos Racing’s Jan Przyrowski led a top 28 split by less than a second on pace in Spanish Formula 4’s pre-event test at Algarve.
The two-day test consisted of eight sessions, and the close margins was evident from the off as Noah Monteiro pipped team-mate Przyrowski to top spot by 0.059 seconds in session one.
A 1m45.659s lap put him on top, with Vivek Kanthan completing an all-Campos top three covered by 0.205s. Drivex School’s Christopher Feghali was fourth fastest, 0.037s off Kanthan.
Rodin Motorsport’s Nathan Tye was fastest in session two, setting a 1m45.720s to lead Kanthan by 0.089s. Campos’s Thomas Strauven and Miguel Costa were 0.12s behind, split by 0.003s, then 0.246s off the pace was Przyrowski.
He had a 0.002s gap to MP Motorsport’s Rene Lammers, with Ean Eyckmans (MP), Matus Ryba (Campos), Reno Francot (MP) and Lorenzo Campos (Monlau Motorsport) also within 0.3s of Tye’s session benchmark.
Campos improved by 0.01s to 1m46.009s to go quickest in session three, and he had a 0.083s gap to Strauven. Francot was 0.161s behind in third and Feghali’s pace peaked mid-session but he still ended up fourth, 0.208s slower than Campos and 0.002s ahead of MP’s Niklas Schaufler.
Strauven ended Tuesday’s action by topping session four in a Campos 1-2-3-4. His best laptime of 1m45.978s put him 0.174s ahead of Ryba, with Costa and Kanthan next up. Tye was best of the rest, 0.284s off Strauven’s pace and 0.012s ahead of TC Racing’s Alfio Spina.
All but four of the 33 drivers set personal bests the next morning in session five, and Przyrowski lowered the pace to 1m45.41s. He was 0.07s faster than Strauven, with Eyckmans and Francot 0.142s and 0.177s behind. Just 0.425s split first and 15th place and 1.73s covered the whole field.
Przyrowski was quickest again in session six, but at a slower pace of 1m45.508s. He led MP’s Juan Cota by 0.175s, Strauven by 0.23s and Francot by 0.257s. Nine drivers lapped sub-1m46s.
Despite there being even more rubber on the track and plenty of laps set, session seven featured even slower times at the top. Tye pipped Cota by 0.023s and Strauven by 0.035s by posting a 1m46.115s, with Przyrowski a quarter of a second off the pace in fourth.
Four drivers skipped the final session, and 0.007s split Strauven and Przyrowski at the top. Strauven set a 1m45.781s, with a gap of 0.303s to Cota in third.
