Sportscar outfit Nielsen Racing has announced it will expand into single-seater racing this year in Euroformula.

Based near the old Rockingham track, Nielsen first became known for competing with success in Radical European Masters and it later expanded into the higher classes of prototype sportscars.

It won the teams title in the LMP3 class of the 2019-20 Asian Le Mans Series and 2021 Le Mans Cup, then took the LMP2 crown in the 2022 ALMS season.

“We’re delighted to expand into single-seaters with Euroformula,” said Nielsen’s team principal Sven Thompson.

“Our goal is to establish ourselves quickly and build on our success in endurance racing. The series holds special significance for me personally, as I worked as a mechanic in Euroformula before founding Nielsen Racing. Returning now as a competing team is an exciting milestone.

“We’re committed to providing young drivers with a strong development platform, and with our experience in prototypes, we’re confident we can build a competitive team and make an impact in the championship.”

The team has purchased three of the TOM’S-powered Dallara 324, is a new chassis-and-engine combination in Euroformula, and announced Edward Pearson [pictured top] as its first driver.

The 17-year-old came eighth in the Formula 3-level championship last year after doing just two rounds, as he picked up three podiums against a small field. He was also 20th as a part-timer in GB3, after coming 19th there with two podiums in 2023. The year before that he was 12th in British Formula 4.

“I can’t wait to work join forces with Nielsen Racing this season for my first full year in Euroformula after the successful outings in the series last year,” commented Pearson.

“Going into a new era for the series, it is exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside such a well-respected team, and I can’t wait to get started. This is a deal that really would not be possible without the support of all my partners, and there is no doubt that I go into 2025 looking to try and fight for the top step of the podium from the very start.”

His two team-mates are set to be announced ahead of pre-season testing, which takes place at Barcelona next week.
