MP Motorsport has completed its 2025 F1 Academy line-up by signing Australian racer Joanna Ciconte.
The 16-year-old is in her second year racing in Formula 4, but has been competing part-time so far. In 2024 she did two rounds in Spanish F4, finishing no higher than 20th, and cameoing in Australian F4 and F4 Central European Zone. There were two top-five finishes in the latter.
This year she has driven for AKM Motorsport in Formula Winter Series, doing the first two rounds of the Iberian series for F4 cars.
“I’m proud to be moving up into the F1 Academy series with MP Motorsport,” she said. “To be able to race in front of large crowds and the Formula 1 stars during grand prix weekends is a dream come true, and to be able to do that with such an experienced team like MP is all I could ask for.”
“I’m very much looking forward to get going with the first test to further hone the car and our cooperation and can’t wait to start my first race in Shanghai.”
MP’s team principal Sander Dorsman added: “[Joanna] is a fantastic final addition to our F1 Academy line-up, which has a great balance of Maya [Weug]’s experience with Alba [Hurup Larsen] and Joanne as two very quick young rookies. We were delighted with Joanne’s strong progress during her final races over the winter period, and we are looking to continue that progress into her debut season in the F1 Academy.”
There is now one full-time seat left on the 2025 F1 Academy grid.
