FIA Formula 3 race-winner and Macau Grand Prix runner-up Mari Boya has secured a step up to Formula 2 next year, and will make the move with Prema.
The 21-year-old Spaniard, whose career is supported by the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, is Prema’s first confirmed driver for the 2026 F2 season.
Boya steps up to F2 after three years in the FIA F3 Championship. The first was with MP Motorsport, then he spent two seasons in Campos Racing’s line-up. He came 17th, 15th and third in his three campaigns, taking a victory and three other podiums in feature races during the lastest one.
“Super excited about joining Prema for my rookie F2 season,” said Boya. “Really eager to start working with the team. I feel I have a great opportunity, and I’m looking forward to seeing how things go.
“I’m particularly happy to have longer races than in F3, which I really like, and also pitstops and tyre degradation to deal with. Let’s hope for a good season.”
During his time in F3, Boya also came fourth in the Macau Grand Prix. He contested the race again once it switched to Formula Regional cars, finishing seventh and second in the last two editions.
“We are happy to welcome Mari to the team,” said Prema’s team principal Rene Rosin.
“If we look at his career, we see a strong progression, and in addition to his speed skills, we know he is a smart and hard-working driver. We are looking forward to seeing how these skills will mix with the team, and we are confident he will continue his form to bring home positive results.”
