Leo Robinson and Maxim Rehm topped Formula Winter Series’ two qualifying sessions at Barcelona on Saturday morning.

The first 15-minute session was heavily disrupted, with three red flag periods. The first was caused by Jenzer Motorsport’s Enea Frey stopping at turn five, and there was a few minutes of green flag action before the next stoppage.

Q1 was stopped entirely with the third red flag period, and the battle for pole played out primarily between the first two stoppages.

AKM Motorsport’s Davide Larini was first to the top, setting a 2m04.563s, and in his slipstream Jenzer’s Bart Harrison then set a 2m02.821s.

He held provisional pole until a minute before the final stoppage, when Hitech GP’s Robinson lowered the pace by 0.172 seconds.

Robinson’s team-mate Fionn McLaughlin also bettered Harrison, by 0.045s, and Larini improved to 2m02.982s in fourth.

Jenzer’s Artem Severiukhun was fifth, US Racing’s Kabir Anurag was sixth and late improvements from Hitech’s Thomas bearman and US’s points leader Gabriel Gomez put them seventh and eighth. Rehm was 10th fastest, 1.269s off pole.

Q2 was less disrupted, and laptimes were quicker as a result. Larini was again the driver to beat at first, posting a 2m03.336s, then Harrison set a 2m02.242s.

Larini managed to beat that by 0.032s, before Severiukhin recorded the first sub-2m02s lap of the day. Harrison shaved half a second off the new benchmark, and improved further to 2m01.273s before a few seconds later Rehm shot to the top with a 2m00.769s.

Harrison could not find any more pace and was shuffled down to fourth behind Robinson, who was 0.361s off Rehm, and Bearman.

Just 0.045s split Severiukhin and Gomez in fifth and sixth, and Larini was a further 0.04s behind in seventh. Anurag was the last driver within a second of pole in eighth, and a second covered the next four drivers.
