KIC Motorsport has completed its 2024 Formula Regional European Championship line-up with the signing of Alex Sawer.
The 16-year-old Vietnamese started last year in karting, then stepped up to single-seater racing in November to compete in the new Indian Formula 4 championship.
He came 39th in the WSK Champions Cup for X30 Senior karts, and 26th in the South Garda Winter Cup, 58th in the CIK-FIA European championship and 104th in the CIK-FIA World championship for OK karts in 2023. His Indian F4 campaign was far more successful, with a race win and five other podiums putting him fifth in the standings.
“FREC will be a new challenge for me, with a new car, new circuits, and a new racing environment,” said Sawer.
“I’m excited to embrace this and gain valuable experience. I’m also looking forward to progressing from the Indian F4 championship, which has done a lot to support drivers like myself on the FIA Global Pathway.”
His move up to FRegional with Finnish outfit KIC will be backed by the Australian-owned Evans GP team, which is also providing technical support to the car of Sawer’s team-mate Costa Toparis.
KIC’s third driver is Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi. At one point it looked like Enzo Scionti would be part of the team’s line-up, with Formula Scout understanding that he was planning to drive for KIC in the pre-season test at Barcelona and the opening round at Hockenheim. However he did not head out on track in testing, and if KIC’s three drivers do the full season then he has missed out on a race seat.
