Kevin Magnussen dominates first Spa qualifying

McLaren junior Kevin Magnussen continued his run of strong form by taking a spectacular pole for race one of Formula Renault 3.5 at Spa.

While there were a couple of lead changes throughout the fog-delayed 20-minute session, there was little doubt that Magnussen would be at the top of the timesheets at the checkered flag. The Dane happily obliged, setting a time with a couple of minutes to go that was a second up on his opposition.

Arden Caterham’s Antonio Felix da Costa will line up in second, with row two being made up by Jazeman Jaafar and Arthur Pic. Marco Sorensen secured fifth with a last-ditch effort, ahead of the Russian pairing of Nikolay Martsenko and Daniil Move. Oliver Webb will start the race from eighth, with Magnussen’s teammate Norman Nato and race winner Carlos Huertas completing the top ten.

It wasn’t the best session for Monaco winners Nico Muller or Will Stevens, both of who found themselves stopped on-track in the closing minutes of the qualifying.
