Jose ‘Joss’ Garfias will return to single-seater racing this year with MP Motorsport in the new Eurocup-3 championship after spending 2022 on the sidelines.
The teenaged Mexican is a race-winner in NACAM Formula 4 and came through the Seven GP driver development run by Mexican racer Picho Toledano.
He stepped up to GB3 in 2021 with Elite Motorsport, and picked up a best finish of fifth from the first six rounds before leaving the series. Garfias then joined Monolite Racing for three Formula Regional European Championship rounds, with two 20th places being the highlight of his six races there.
“I’m really pleased to be joining MP Motorsport in Eurocup-3”, said Garfias.
“They are one of the top teams in European single-seater racing, and I’m grateful for the opportunity they have handed me. Along with Sebastian [Ogaard, his Eurocup-3 team-mate], I hope to produce the results to match their reputation of talent accelerators. The championship will visit the best circuits in Europe – I can’t wait for the opening round at Spa to get going.”
MP’s team principal Sander Dorsman added: “It’s great news to have Joss in one of our Eurocup-3 cars. We raced against him in FREC in 2021 and spotted his potential, so now it’s time to unlock his talent and promote his single-seater career.
“With Joss and Sebastian, we already have a strong pairing in our cars and we look forward to go racing with them. We expect to complete our Eurocup-3 season line-up soon.”
Palou Motorsport, a new team launched by 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, has recently done several days of testing with their FRegional chassis at Navarra. The Eurocup-3 bodykits for the cars will be recieved at a later date, at which point teams will only be allowed to participate in officiail series tests. Miron Pingasov was at the wheel for Palou’s shakedowns.
