James Hedley is set to race in FIA Formula 3 for the rest of the 2025 season having replaced Javier Sagrera in AIX Racing’s line-up.
Hedley made a one-off appearance in the series in Monaco last year when he replaced Matias Zagazeta at Jenzer Motorsport in Monaco.
He otherwise took place in five GB3 rounds with three different teams, having contested two previous years in the championship and taken two wins on his way to sixth in the 2023 standings. Prior to that he won eight times across two years in British Formula 4, having been Ginetta Junior champion in 2019.
Looking to progress his career despite limited funds, Hedley went on to test in Super Formula late last year, then appeared in two Formula Regional Middle East rounds for the partnership between Akcel GP and PHM Racing. He has now thanked the former – which has also entered FRegional Europe this year – for helping to secure his seat in F3.
“It’s an absolute dream come true for me and something I never thought could happen,” he said. “I want to thank Akcel GP very very much and AIX Racing for putting their faith in me. I am super excited to start getting used to the new car and working closely with the team to achieve some respectable results sooner rather than later.”
No reason has been given by AIX for Sagrera vacating his seat. The Spaniard was declared the 2024 Eurocup-3 runner-up after Christian Ho was confirmed as champion following an appeal. He took a best finish of 15th from the first four races of the F3 season.
