The final round of the 2024 Indy Nxt season has been moved from the streets of Nashville to the Nashville Superspeedway oval.
For the last two years the series has headed to Nashville to be one of IndyCar’s support series at the Music City Grand Pix. The 2024 calendar was revealed last October and the city not only retained its spot but became host of the season finale on September 14/15.
While the date is unchanged in the updated calendar, the IndyCar and Indy Nxt paddocks will now be heading 29 miles east to race on the oval named after the city. The change has come about following the grand prix’s title sponsor taking over operations of the event.
It did a review on how the event has been run since its introduction to the IndyCar calendar in 2021, and in light of construction work taking place on a new stadium in the city centre which would have required changes to the circuit layout and paddock area it decided to relocate the race for 2024.
Nashville Superspeedway has hosted Indy Nxt races seven times, as it was fixture on the calendar from 2002 to ’08. Cory Witherill won the series’ first ever race there, and Ana Beatriz made history at the track in 2008 when she became the first ever woman to win a race in the series.
“Nashville Superspeedway is ideally suited to our highly competitive and extremely intense style of racing, and we look forward to adding a Speedway Motorsports track to our schedule,” said Mark Miles, president and CEO of the series-owning Penske Entertainment. “Our fans will eagerly anticipate watching a championship be decided on a high-speed oval.”
