New Indy Nxt champion Louis Foster has secured a step up to IndyCar seat for 2025 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Having not been confident about securing an IndyCar future a few months ago, Foster’s stellar run to the Indy Nxt title increased his stock with teams at the top level and while his scholarship prize was a key contribution to his 2025 budget he has done enough to land a multi-year deal.
A contributing factor for that is a sponsorship deal on Foster’s entry which RLLR will announce at a later date.
“I am really looking forward to working with the team,” said Foster. “RLLR have Indianapolis 500 victories, obviously Bobby [Rahal] has won an Indy 500, and there is a great wealth of knowledge with the team.
“I want to thank Bobby, David [Letterman] and Mike [Lanigan] for their faith in my abilities, and I want to thank all my sponsors who have helped me achieve my dream of driving in IndyCar, in particular [sponsor] Copart.
“I can’t wait to start my IndyCar career with the team, and hopefully we can have a long and successful career together. I’m hoping that coming off the experience gained from winning the Indy Nxt championship, that will leave me in a good stance to get the ball rolling. This is where the hard work starts. We will start the preparations and make sure we get hit the ground running in St. Pete.”
Foster, 21, has had an uber-successful junior single-searer career which began with third place in the 2019 British Formula 4 season. He was third in BRDC British Formula 3 the year after, Euroformula runner-up in 2021, USF Pro 2000 champion in 2022 and then has spent the last two years racing for Andretti Global in Indy Nxt.
As a rookie he took two wins, four other podiums and four poles, then this season won eight races, finished second three times and qualified on pole seven times en route to the title.
“We are very pleased that we have been able to come to an agreement with Louis to have him drive for the team for the next several years,” team co-owner Bobby Rahal said.
“He obviously dominated Indy Nxt in 2024, and we feel he has a big future ahead of him and are happy to support the ladder system IndyCar has created. We look at this as a long-term relationship that will go beyond the existing terms and are very excited to get started on preparations for the 2025 season and his series debut.”
