Gerrard Xie has confirmed a switch to Hitech GP for his sophomore season in GB3.

The 17-year-old became a member of Hitech’s academy last year and then joined Hillspeed, a team which had set up a partnership with Hitech, for GB3. He came 20th in the standings, taking two two top-five finishes at Spa-Francorchamps and then a maiden victory in the reversed-grid season finale at Donington Park.

The Hong Kong racer arrived in Britain after a stunning 2022 in which he dominated the Chinese Formula 4 championship with 12 wins from 14 starts, took the title in the country’s Formula Renault Super Challenge with an unbeaten record and finished second in the Macau Grand Prix.

Xie has started his 2024 preparations by racing in Formula Regional Oceania with M2 Competition, and he currently sits eighth in the standings after two rounds with one win to his name.

“I am very proud to be representing such a prestigious team for the 2024 GB3 season,” said Xie. “I have gained a lot of experience and confidence throughout last season. Now I am ready to keep pushing my development forwards and aiming for some great results and performances throughout 2024.

“A huge thank you to my family and sponsors for this opportunity. I will be working as hard as I can to achieve the best possible results for everyone involved.”

He is Hitech’s second signing for the upcoming GB3 season, after 2023 British F4 runner-up William Macintyre. It has not been confirmed if the team’s partnership with Hillspeed will continue into 2024.
