PHM Racing by Charouz has announced that McKenzy Cresswell will join the team for the next two FIA Formula 3 Championship rounds, taking the place of Piotr Wisnicki.
Polish teenager Wisnicki has had a tough first half of the season, only once finishing inside the top 20 in the first four rounds.
Last year he raced in Formula Regional European Championship and never threatened the top 20 in that, and he spent 2020 and ’21 in Italian Formula 4 where he scored points six times.
Cresswell arrives from GB3, where he is currently seventh in the standings with two podiums while driving for Elite Motorsport. Last year he came 11th in the standings with Chris Dittmann Racing, and made one podium appearance.
The 17-year-old has won in his single-seater career, as he picked up six victories as a rookie in British F4 two years ago.
“It’s been whirlwind few days, having learned of this opportunity at the end of last week,” Cresswell said of his F3 chance.
“Big thanks to [sporting director] Roland Rehfeld at PHM and Tony Shaw, my GB3 engineer, for making this happen. I will try my best to adapt quickly and get the best results possible.
“Red Bull Ring will be an exciting challenge. It’s a new car and new circuit for me. The following weekend we will be back on home turf alongside the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.”
PHM has not confirmed whether Wisnicki is out for the rest of the season, with three more rounds following the back-to-back weekends at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone.
