Runaway Italian Formula 4 points leader Freddie Slater will make his GB3 bow with Rodin Motorsport in this weekend’s penultimate round of the season at Donington Park.
Slater has enjoyed a highly-decorated start to his car racing career, winning the 2023 Ginetta Junior title with a record-breaking 16 victories, and began this year by taking the F4 United Arab Emirates crown. He has since taken 11 wins from 15 races in Italian F4 with Prema.
His achievements have helped him make the final 10 for this year’s prestigious Silverstone Autosport BRDC award, with a £200,000 cheque and Aston Martin Formula 1 test drive among the prizes for the winner.
Slater had been ineligible to race in GB3 until now as he did not turn 16, the series’ minimum age limit, until last month but he has already racked up significant testing mileage with Rodin at Donington Park, going second fastest there in pre-season testing in March.
“I’m excited to finally get to race in GB3 with a team like Rodin Motorsport,” said Slater. “I really hope to bring in some good results for me and the team at Donington, and get things started in a good way!”
He replaces Ugo Ugochuwku, who has appeared at four rounds this season but has clashing Formula Regional European commitments this weekend.
“We’re pleased to have Freddie on board and have been working with him recently ahead of his debut in the GB3 Championship,” said Rodin’s GB3 team manager Ricky Taylor. “He tested with us last week at Donington Park and we already know he works brilliantly with the team so we can’t wait to get this first race weekend underway.”
