Italian Formula 4 champion Freddie Slater has confirmed his anticipated move up to Formula Regional Europe with Prema for 2025.
The 16-year-old Briton won the title in entry-level sportscar series Ginetta Junior last year, while also making his first steps in single-seater racing with a variety of teams. He drove for Prema in two Euro 4 rounds, the Formula 4 United Arab Emirates Trophy and the F4 races at the Macau Grand Prix, then joined them full-time for 2024.
Slater became F4 UAE and Italian F4 champion, was runner-up in Euro 4 and took a total of 17 race wins. He got a taste of more powerful machinery by making a GB3 cameo with Rodin Motorsport, and has also done Formula 3 testing with Prema.
“I’m just super super happy to stay with Prema for another year. My journey just started but hopefully, this means many more years to come with this great team,” said Slater.
“Massive thanks to Angelo and Rene [Rosin] for placing their trust in me to do the job and for giving me another opportunity to go for some more race wins and hopefully, more championships. Can’t wait to get working.”
Slater is the first confirmed driver on the 2025 FREC grid, but Prema is yet to announce any drivers for next month’s FIA FRegional World Cup-awarding Macau GP.
“Freddie has left an amazing impression this year. The number of races he won, and the way he won them, revealed incredible potential and we are proud to keep working with him for the next step of his career in FRegional,” Prema’s team principal Rene Rosin said.
“This has proven to be a challenging championship to adapt to, but with Freddie’s skill set, together with our support, we will aim to be competitive very soon.”
