Campos Racing has announced a change to its driver line-up for this weekend’s FIA Formula 3 season finale at Monza, with Joshua Dufek taking the place of Hugh Barter.
Australian rookie Barter is currently 18th in the standings with 14 points, and he matched his best result of the season last time out at Spa-Francorchamps. No reason has been given for why he is unable to see out the campaign.
Dufek steps up to FIA F3 from the Formula Regoinal European Championship, where he has driven for Van Amersfoort Racing. He sits ninth in the standings with four rounds still to go, and claimed his first pole at the Hungaroring in June.
In the race he converted that into a fourth place, his best result of the season to date. Last year the 18-year-old Swiss also came ninth in FREC, and picked up three podiums during that season. He has also claimed podiums in FRegional Middle East, and before that was a race-winner in Italian Formula 4. During his karting career he was a Sauber junior.
“I’m extremely thrilled and thankful to both Campos Racing and Peak Performance Management to have been given this opportunity and can’t wait to work closely with the new team to learn as much as I can,” said Dufek of his F3 debut.
“As I’ve only competed in FREC up until now, it’ll be a bit of a jump into cold water but after a long summer break, I really couldn’t be more excited to hit the track and it’ll be nice to experience some more speed and power from the F3 machine.”
Campos’s team principal Adrian Campos Jr added:: “I would like to warmly welcome Josh at Campos Racing because we have closely followed his racing career. This said, it is such a shame that Hugh wasn’t able to complete the full season because he was making very remarkable progress. We would like to wish him the very best for the future in motorsports.
“will support Josh with all our strength and our goal will be to give him a competitive car to make a successful debut in the ultra-competitive FIA F3 championship.”
