Liechtenstein-born driver Fabienne Wohlwend beat W Series leader Jamie Chadwick to pole position at Misano.

Wohlwend had only been sixth fastest in the delayed free practice sessions, over half a second off the pace, but upped her game in qualifying and after moving to the top with 10 minutes left was unbeaten.

Chadwick closed down the gap to 0.044 seconds, but pitted early rather than attempt one last flying lap.

After topping the first free practice session, Zolder winner Beitske Visser looked one of the favourites for pole and did lead early on in the qualifying session. She couldn’t keep with Wohlwend, who has previous experience of Misano in GT racing, and ended up third.

Alice Powell and Vicky Piria, another with circuit experience, were fourth and fifth fastest and the last drivers to break into the 1m33s.

Japanese driver Miki Koyama set the overall free practice pace, but couldn’t repeat that form in qualifying and sank to sixth, just 0.034s clear of Marta Garcia.

Caitlin Wood was slowest of the 19 drivers, 2.912s off the pace, but ended her session early after damaging her Tatuus F3 chassis.
