The Formula Regional-based Eurocup-3 championship has announced it will launch a winter counterpart in 2025.
Based in Spain but racing across Europe, Eurocup-3 was created last year and had an average grid size of more than 16 cars as it had 18 or more for four of the eight rounds.
This year began with a non-championship event at Motorland Aragon that attracted 14 drivers, then so far this season the average grid size has been 25 cars. MP Motorsport’s Javier Sagrera leads the points with two rounds to go.
Each round has two races, but the Eurocup-3 Spanish Winter Championship will use a different format when it begins next February. There will be three rounds, with each containing two qualifying sessions and three races.
One of those races will be a shorter encounter where a reversed grid will be used. It has not been confirmed whether that will be set by qualifying or race results.
Spanish circuit Jerez will host round one on February 7-9, then teams will head to Portugal to race at Algarve on February 21-23. The season finale is back in Spain at Navarra on March 7-9.
“The growth of Eurocup-3 is exceeding all our expectations,” said the championship’s general director Marco Rodriguez.
“In just two seasons, it has become a highly competitive championship, featuring truly talented drivers who are part of the new generation of rising stars. Now, with the creation of the Eurocup-3 Spanish Winter Championship, we are adding significant value to the series to further strengthen our commitment.”
