Dennis Hauger finally takes first ADAC F4 win at Red Bull Ring

by Ida Wood

Dennis Hauger dominated the opening ADAC Formula 4 race at the Red Bull Ring, which finished under the safety car after a late crash.

Red Bull junior Hauger led away from pole and had stretched out a lead of four seconds in his Van Amersfoort Racing-ran car before the penultimate lap clash between the guesting Giorgio Carrara and Prema’s Ralf Aron outside of the points.

Sauber junior Alessandro Ghiretti had a similarly isolated run to second prior to the safety car, and the pair has jumped up to third and fourth in the standings.

Mucke Motorsport’s William Alatalo, making a guest appearance, started in eighth place but was up to fifth within a lap and an error by Prema’s Alessandro Famularo handed him the final podium spot,

Famularo also lost a place to team-mate Gianluca Petecof, who started even further back in 12th but with some strong attacks brought himself up to eighth fairly quickly, and then snatched fifth with a forceful move on the first safety car restart caused by a Joshua Durksen crash.

Late on he faded back to fifth behind Famularo, and was a substantial distance ahead of the battle for sixth prior to the race-ending safety car.

VAR’s Niklas Krutten had started from sixth and held the position for much of the race. On several occasions Sauber junior Roman Stanek almost succeeding in getting past, and it wasn’t until the penultimate lap that we was able to get through after Krutten went wide at Turn 2.

On the run to Turn 3 it was three-wide between Krutten, Stanek and his US Racing team-mate Arthur Leclerc, and it was the latter who came out of the corner ahead.

The final Sauber car of Theo Pourchaire fell down the order from fifth on the grid, eventually finishing 12th.
